Welding aluminum on today’s vehicles is becoming more common and will most likely be increasing in the future. Improving the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) continues to drive the trend toward lighter yet stronger, safer vehicles. However, many technicians are reluctant to seek the knowledge and skills that welding aluminum requires.Aluminum welding repairs are requiring technicians to back-up and relearn the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding process as well as basic metallurgy. Specifically, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding requires an even higher skill level, especially on thin panels.
