Lightning Cars approached us to support them designing an electric sports car. Drive supported the Lightning team to develop the exterior and interior of their electric GT sports coupe.
Designing the car from the ground up brought fresh challenges with a new type of power source, innovative in-wheel motors, advanced custom control systems and package layout being a first for everyone involved.
The goal was to create a visually stunning and enduring design that would not only compete with other leading sports cars but appeal to early adopters and gain support in the press and from online influencers.
To achieve this the cars silhouette followed classic cab-rear sports coupe proportions with bold flying buttresses and clean surfaces, muscular wheel arches connected with simple crisp character lines. Striking but with a good balance of classicism.
ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR
Our approach and process played to the strengths of the small group and our involvement grew from developing a mature and crafted appearance surface set, to creating BIW parts to help move the project forward. We gained so much knowledge of what goes into designing an electric sports car.
The truly collaborative effort between a select group of specialists resulted in a fully finished and running prototype being shown at the Geneva Motor show. Nestled alongside many established marques, the car captured the attention of the mainstream press who praised the styling and marvelled at how such a resolved working pre-production car was created by an incredibly small team in just six months.
The car perfectly showcases the efficiencies we bring to small start-ups helping them navigate complex development processes, exposing them to as little risk as possible.
